Zona Tobler, 83, passed away Thursday, December 6, 2018, in St George, Utah. Zona was born on October 1, 1935, to Elsie Susan and Oscar LeRoy Thacker in Las Vegas, Nevada. She was the oldest of two children. She attended Moapa Valley High School and has always had a love for the valley. She graduated from the BYU nursing program. Zona met and married the love of her life, Heber Jay Tobler, on December 20, 1958 in the St George Temple. They would have celebrated their 60th anniversary this year. They raised their family in Boulder City, Nevada and returned to Overton, Nevada after their children were raised.
While growing up, Zona discovered the beauty of the hills of Moapa Valley on the back of her horse accompanied by her faithful dog. She valued education, loved learning, reading, history, art, traveling, hiking, water skiing, and watercolor painting. She loved to swim and regularly swam at the warm springs in Moapa. Her last swim was 2 weeks before her passing. She was involved in the Moapa Valley Art Guild and Pomegranate Festival and helped in the local family business. She had a career in nursing, and was continually serving family, friends, and those in need. She saw beauty in life and the people around her. She faithfully served in many callings in her church and in the temple.
Her greatest love and passion was her family. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She shared her time, talents, and testimony with her family and friends and was an inspiration and support to them. She was the biggest fan at their events. Each of her grandchildren has fond memories of time spent with Grandma and Grandpa. She showed her faith through her many good works and left a legacy of love, service, and devotion to her family and God.
She bravely faced the disabling challenges of illness and age and peacefully passed surrounded by family to be welcomed by those family members and friends who have passed on before.
Zona was preceded in death by her parents and brother William Joseph Thacker. She is survived by her husband, Heber of Overton, NV; son, Steven (Marie) of Mesa AZ; daughter, Shirley (Stann) Solomon of New Harmony, UT; son, Roger (Alyson) of Boulder City, NV, son, Randall (Stephanie) of Logandale, NV; 21 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren on the way.
