Zetta "Leona" Tanner, age 82, passed away Monday, December 21, 2009 in Bunkerville, Nevada. She was born in Las Vegas, Nevada on May 23, 1927 to John Harvey and Julia Griffith Averett. Leona was raised in Las Vegas by Frank and Ed Waite. She married Evan Orlando Tanner on October 30, 1943 and they later sealed their marriage in the St. George LDS Temple. Together they helped take care of Evan's mother and younger siblings.

Leona was very proud of her heritage and was the granddaughter of the first pioneer of Moapa Valley. She was a hard worker her whole life. She worked as a seamstress at the Convention Center in Las Vegas and was the first female teamster local 631 where she drove big trucks. They were proud owners of many farms in Glendale, Littlefield, and Bunkerville . She was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints where she served in numerous callings.

She will be remembered for her sense of humor and her compassion for others. She enjoyed to do crafts, sewing, fishing, hunting, and reading. She loved to go to Disneyland and riding roller coasters (She was a thrill seeker) . She was proud of her grand children and loved them very much. Leona is survived by four children Allen (Maria) Tanner of Las Vegas, NV, Charles Tanner of Eugene, OR, Ronald Tanner of Bunkerville, NV, Sharon (Dannie) Leavitt of Bunkerville NV, six grandchildren Mark Tanner, Mathew Tanner, Andrew Tanner, Michael Tanner, Heather Leavitt, Lorin Evan Leavitt, and one great grandchild Liliana Rain Leavitt. Preceded in death by her husband Evan Orlando Tanner and one daughter Jeanette Tanner.

Services will be held Wednesday, December 23, 2009 at 2:00 PM at the Bunkerville, LDS Chapel in Bunkerville, Nevada. Visitation will be held prior to the service from 1:00 to1:45 PM. Burial will follow at the Bunkerville Cemetery.
