Winona Whitney

Winona Andersen Whitney passed away peacefully Tuesday, June 21, 2016. She was 92 years old and an inspiration to all who knew her. She was born in Overton on November 7, 1923, and was the youngest of 7 children born to James William and Ellen Josephine Robertson Andersen.
Winona married Lloyd Frehner Whitney on July 5, 1941. They raised three children. Aside from several short departures with their little family in search of work, she lived her whole life here. She truly loved Moapa Valley!
Her membership in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints was very important to her. She was always faithful in her church service. A talented musician, she was called on to provide music for meetings and gatherings throughout the community for most of her life. She had the opportunity to serve a mission with Lloyd and they also served as temple ordinance workers in the St. George Temple.
Survivors include two sons and one daughter: Jim (Nancy) Whitney of Overton, NV; Mary Beth (Terry) Leavitt of Cedar City, UT; Mike (Mary Lou ) Whitney of Overton, NV; 10 grandchildren (who loved her dearly) , and 30 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, three brothers and three sisters.
Funeral services will be held Monday, June 27, 2016 at 10 a.m. at the Overton 3rd Ward Chapel. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the chapel. Interment will follow in the Logandale Cemetery.
