William W. Johnson

William W. Johnson, 81, went home to his Heavenly Father on April 24, 2016 in Mesquite, Nevada, after a long battle with stomach cancer. Born July 11, 1934 in Lakeview, Utah to Lafayette Mads Johnson and Iris Sarah Webb, he was the youngest of four children. He married Georgia Louise Brown on June 27, 1969 and was sealed in the Dallas Texas Temple on April 18, 1989.

Bill grew up in Lakeview and worked with his father building homes and on the farm. He graduated from Lincoln High School in Orem and graduated from BYU with a BS in Geology in 1956, the University of Utah with a MS in Geophysics in 1958, the University of Pittsburgh with a Ph.D. in Geophysics in 1967, and did post-doctoral work at the Lamont Observatory, Columbia University. He served briefly in the United States Army. He was employed as a Senior Research Geophysicist by Sinclair Oil Company, ARCO Oil, and British Petroleum in Plano, Texas, until his retirement in 1986. He then managed the family real estate holdings and investments.

After nearly 40 years in the same home in Richardson, Texas, Bill and Georgia moved to Sun City Mesquite in 2008 to be closer to their children and grandchildren.

Bill enjoyed spending time with his children. You could often find him entertaining all of the neighborhood children on an outing to the park across the street from their home. He enjoyed traveling by car to Utah to visit family every year and usually included a side trip to interesting places in the area and along the way. He also was a great mechanic and was able to dismantle car engines and get them running smoothly again. Bill was a ward clerk for several years in Dallas and a dedicated home teacher in the LDS church.

Bill is survived by his wife of 46 years, Georgia; his daughter, Amy Marie (Jason) Webster of Tehachapi, CA and their children: Amanda, Gavin and Ryan; and by his son, Andrew William (Julie) Johnson of Orem, Utah and their children: Aubrey, Bradley, Ethan, Owen and Karie. He was preceded in death by his parents and three siblings: Myron L. Johnson, Sherwin W. Johnson, and Nelda Foote.

A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, May 14, 2016 at 11am in the Mesquite LDS Stake Center on 100 N. Arrowhead Dr., Mesquite, NV 89027. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Mesquite Cancer Help Society at P.O. Box 1416, Mesquite, NV 89024 or the charity of your choice.
