William “Bill” Richard Belcher, 80, passed away on January 9, 2025. Bill was born on June 26, 1944 in Salt Lake City, UT to Leo Guy Belcher and La Verna Elizabeth Brooks. Bill was raised in Salina, UT, where he was raised playing in the mountains, going fishing, watching and collecting trains, marbles. and baseball cards. He was a great athlete, an excellent wrestler, and he fell in love with scouting when he met a scout master who mentored him as a young man to become the leader he is known and loved for. After graduating from North Sevier High School, he wrestled for a time at Snow College and at the University of Utah. He was a four-time National Wrestling Champion, and an Olympic alternate for the 1972 Olympic Games in Munich, Germany. While he attended Snow College, he started dating the daughter of a rival wrestling coach, and he married Flora Elaine Balle on December 15th, 1963. They were later sealed in the St. George, UT Temple on July 10th, 1965. He and his young family moved to Las Vegas, NV where he did computer programming for Clark County, the Test Site, and at Nellis Air Force Base. In 1975, they moved to Logandale, NV, and Bill would work at the Overton Power District for twenty years before retiring. After retirement, Bill and Elaine started their own cleaning company under B&E Enterprises
Bill loved the youth of Southern Nevada. He was involved in the Boy Scouts of America programs for the Las Vegas, Mesquite, and Moapa areas, and was the founder of Camp Nokomis on Kolob Mountain. He mentored over 138 Eagle Scouts and was a Scout Master for over 35 years teaching life lessons for thousands of young men. He also coached wrestling in Las Vegas and Little Pirate Wrestling in Moapa Valley for many years. He and Elaine welcomed many foreign exchange students and foster children into their home. He was patient and loving, and was a great leader, father, and husband. He was supportive of his children, always attending their recitals, plays, and sporting events. He was dependable, selfless, would see a need, and was always willing to help when needed. He was very protective of his children
Bill is survived by his wife, Flora Elaine Belcher; his children, David (Jeaneen) Belcher, Kristi (Lorenzo) Delgadillo, Mike Belcher, Richard (Jackie) Belcher, and Charlie (Kathy) Belcher; his seventeen grandchildren; and his twenty great-grandchildren, with one on the way. He is preceded in death by his parents, Leo and La Verna Belcher; his siblings, Lynda Lee Belcher, Judith Elizabeth (Cal) Royal, and Dennis Leo Belcher; and his daughter, Jodi Belcher.
A Viewing will be held on Wednesday, January 15, 2025 6-8:00 p.m. at the Moapa Valley Mortuary, 5090 N. Moapa Valley Blvd, Logandale, NV 89021. A Viewing will be held on Thursday, January 16, 2025 9:30-10:30 a.m. at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Hinckley Chapel, 1505 Hinckley Ave, Logandale, NV 89021, with the Funeral to begin at 11:00 a.m. Graveside services will follow at the Logandale Cemetery, 3220 Lyman Ave, Logandale, NV 89021.
