Walter Schanus
Walter Herbert Schanus, age 80, of Mesquite, Nevada passed away Sunday, August 31, 2008 at Kolob Care and Rehab Nursing Home in St. George, Utah. Walter was born July 1, 1928 in Shakopee, Minnesota to Joseph and Minnie Ruecker Schanus. He married Evelyn Janke on January 11, 1950 in Hibbing, Minnesota.
Walter was a World War II Veteran serving in the Navy and a member of American Legion Post 60 in Grand Rapids, Minnesota. He was also a member of the NRA for 48 years.
Walt and Evelyn retired in 1986 and moved to Bovey, Minnesota at Lawrence Lake. In 1999 they moved to Mesquite to enjoy the weather.
Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Evelyn; sister, Florence Jacobson of New York Mills, MN; brother-in-law, Clarence Janke of Aurora, MN; sister and brother-in-law, Lois and Wesley Hepola of Eveleth, MN; as well as many nieces and nephews, relatives and friends. Walt was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Raymond and Lloyd; sister, Dorothy; nephew, Dennis Kojonen; niece, Patricia Thoms; and great nephew, Robbie Schanus.
