Virgie B Cleminson

December 16, 1913 — September 17, 2011

Virgie B. Cleminson

Our spunky, fiercely independent, hard working and most loving Grandma Virg, returned home to an army of friends on September 17, 2011.

Virgie B. Haile Cleminson was born on December 16,in "19 and a 13" in Gainesboro, Tennessee to Amon and Flarettie Haile. She was one of eleven children. She loved her siblings deeply and shared millions of memorable experiences with them throughout her life. She had many stories to tell of humble Christmas' when they received only a candy stick, on a good year, an orange. She worked hard in the terraced fields of her family's farm in Pinch Gut Holler and attended school until the 8th grade.

When she was 27, she migrated to Southern California, literally changing the destinies of future generations. It was there that she began working for the bakery, a job that she was immensely proud of. She retired in 1974. She holds the honor of being the oldest Union Member in the State of California and paid her union dues until the day she died.

Virgie had a passion for politics and was extremely involved with the Democratic Party. It was one of her life's highlights to attend the inauguration of John F. Kennedy; the Kennedy's held and attended fund raisers in her home in Southern California. She never took her voting rights for granted and considered it a privilege to step into the booth, She LOVED heated political conversations with friends and family members and never missed an opportunity to tease Republicans about the State of the Union.

Virgie is survived by her husband of 45 years, Tom Cleminson. She leaves behind a son Wayne Ragland and a daughter-in-law she adored, Linda. She was also blessed to be a mother to William Kirkland (Sharon) and a grandma to Tracie, Robin, Mark, Shelly, Shauna, Chad, Kim and Dan. She has numerous great grand children and great, great grandchildren. They all love her so and are proud to be part of the legacy she leaves behind.

In 1973, two Mormon missionaries knocked on Tom and Virgie's door and introduced them to the gospel of Jesus Christ at a time when they were ready to embrace its message. Joining The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints changed Tom and Virgie's lives forever. Virgie's testimony of the Gospel allows her to move forward, knowing that we will all meet again.

The family wishes to sincerely thank the Hospice angels that so tenderly cared for Virg in her final days. Their tenderness and care have been very much appreciated.
