Victor Thomas Atkinson, age 94, died Saturday, February 7, 2015 in Ivins, Utah. He was born September 8, 1920 in Dayton, Idaho to Samuel Hyrum and Martha Mae Phillips Atkinson. On November 10, 1941 he married LaFae Bennett in Dayton, Idaho. They were later sealed in the Logan Utah LDS Temple. She preceded him in death on July 26, 2006.
Vic grew up in Dayton. His great love of country led to him entering the US Army during WWII where he served in the Philippines, leaving his new bride at home alone. After the war, he partnered with his brother in law in several business ventures, including a retail poultry business in Odgen, Utah, a motel and bar in Overton, Nevada and others. His love of Lake Mead, boating, fishing and hunting brought him permanently to Overton, Nevada in 1978. He will be remembered for his business acumen, integrity and his love for all people and his family.
Survivors include his son, Bob and (Fran) of Ivins, UT; four grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, one son, Richard, two brothers and five sisters. Funeral services will be held Thursday, February 12, 2015 at 11 a.m. at the Overton LDS Chapel. A visitation will be held Wednesday, February 11, 2015 from 6 - 8 p.m. at the Moapa Valley Mortuary and again from 9:30 - 10:30 a.m. prior to services at the chapel. Interment will be Friday, February 13, 2015 at 1p.m. (MST) in the Syracuse City Cemetery, Syracuse, Utah.
