Verl "L" Frehner, 75, passed away peacefully in his home surrounded by family, on October 19, 2010 in Scenic, AZ. He was born August 16, 1935 to Fenton and Mary Leavitt Frehner in St George, UT, and was raised in Mesquite, NV. He married Toni Lawrence September 2, 1961 in the St George Temple. They were blessed with two wonderful daughters, Shannon and Stacie.

Verl served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in the Great Lakes Mission and also served his country in the army in Germany. He was called to be a Bishop in Las Vegas at a young age. His interest was in education and he received his Bachelor's Degree at CSU(SUU), his Master's at BYU and received a Doctor of Education Degree at USU. He was an educator and worked in the Clark County School District for 30 years before retiring after an illness.

After a move back to Mesquite in 1993, Verl then became Principal of the Littlefield Elementary School for a short period of time. Years before he retired, he worked on establishing an Improvement District in Arizona which is now known as Scenic, AZ. Because of his efforts, a bridge and roads were built in the Improvement District. He loved to write and was able to publish a book on "Howard Hughes", and also a number of books on "Petroglyphs"(Basketmaker II Indians). He enjoyed being with family and friends and working outdoors.

Verl is survived by his loving wife Toni of Scenic, AZ, his children Shannon (James) Hartley of Scenic, AZ, Stacie Frehner of Cedar City, UT. Grandchildren Christopher James and KaLeiah Lalani Hartley of Scenic, AZ. Brothers Klint (Gail) Frehner of Scenic, AZ, Creed (Debbie) Frehner of Las Vegas, NV, Alf (Susie) Frehner and Bryce (Diana) Frehner of Mesquite, NV. Sisters Dorothy (Verland) Thurston, Mary Lynn (Tom) Leavitt, Lana (Derrill) Larkin all of St George, UT and Kimi (Mark) Christensen of Ivins, UT, and sisters-in-law Glenna Frehner of St George, UT and Mavis Frehner of Orange County, CA. He was preceded in death by his father Fenton and mother Mary Leavitt Frehner, and brothers Dale and Graeme Frehner.

Funeral services will be held Monday, October 25, 2010 at 11 am NV time at the Mesquite LDS Stake Center 100 N Arrowhead. Viewings will be Sunday evening from 6-8 pm at the Stake Center and again Monday morning at 9:30-10:45 prior to the service.
