Val D Sharp

November 9, 1944 — March 14, 2025

Las Vegas, NV

Val D Sharp, a great man of faith who touched the lives of many, passed away on March 14, 2025, in Las Vegas, Nevada. Born on November 9, 1944, in Murray, Utah to George Randolph Sharp and Jane Delquadro. Val’s life was a testament to his dedication, service, and love for his family, community, and country.

After leaving Jordan High School in Utah, Val embarked on a remarkable journey in the United States Navy. He served honorably on the esteemed U.S.S. Ranger, stationed on the radar facility. Val’s exceptional marksmanship skills and commitment to gun safety made him an invaluable asset to his unit. Val married Laura Marlene Phipps in April 1962, and together they had four children. After his service in the Navy, he went on to further his education by getting his Business Admin degree at Cal State Long Beach class of 1973. After graduating, he moved his family to Colorado Springs, CO eventually getting his Real Estate license and worked as a sales broker specializing in commercial sales. This took him to Las Vegas when the market slowed in Colorado and better opportunities prevailed in Las Vegas after his divorce with his first wife.

Val dedicated his life to the City of Las Vegas, where he worked as a Sewage Management Inspector for twenty years. He was an accomplished real estate agent, a skilled tour bus driver, an armed security guard at the Las Vegas airport and worked at the iconic Caesars Palace. His expertise and commitment to public service earned him respect and admiration of those having the pleasure to serve with him.

In 1992, Val’s life took a new chapter when he met Robin Rae Wackerman at a West Coast Swing dancing lesson. Their connection was instantaneous, and they were paired up in the class, embarking on a journey that would last a lifetime. On April 1, 1993, Val proposed to Robin, and they were married in a beautiful ceremony on May 29, 1993, in Las Vegas, Nevada surrounded by their children, grandchildren, family, and friends.

Val and Robin shared a deep love for dancing and traveling together, exploring new places and creating unforgettable memories. Val’s passion for reading and learning was evident in his ability to impart knowledge and wisdom to others. He was a dedicated member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, where he honed his skills in teaching gospel principles with a powerful and inspiring approach.

Genealogy was another passion of Val’s, and he made countless contributions to his own family history and the histories of others. His love for animals was equally evident, and he often spent time horseback riding with his beloved horse, Mr. Checkers, accompanied by his wife, Robin.

Above all, Val cherished his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and he found immense joy in the numerous reunions and visits they shared. He had a special relationship with all of them, regularly making it a point to go out of his way to be there in person for their important milestones in life. His love for his family was the driving force behind his life, and he will forever be remembered as a man who touched the lives of everyone he met.

Val Sharp, a beloved member of our community, passed away, leaving behind a legacy of family. He is survived by his devoted wife, Robin R. Sharp, and his four children: Del Sharp, Julene (Mark) Helean, Michael (Nely) Sharp, and Gregory (Rebekah) Sharp. Additionally, he is blessed with two step-sons, Travis and Derek Surber, and twelve grandchildren, including Jason (Noell) Helean and Tessa (Spencer) Nelson that gave him his cherished six great-grandchildren. Val’s siblings, Bonnie Andrus and Ted (Anita) Sharp, and numerous nieces and nephews also mourn his loss. He is preceded in death by his parents, and siblings, Randolyn, Marilyn, Gordon, and Karen.

Val’s passing is deeply felt, and he will be remembered fondly by all who knew him. Val’s earthly journey has come to an end, but his knowledge of the Gospel of Jesus Christ is what he and his family know will allow them to be with him again someday.
