Timothy William Sturgess, Sr.

Former Ketchikan resident, Timothy William Sturgess, Sr., age 70, passed away on July 7th, 2021, following a short illness.  He was born on September 20th, 1950, in Hong Kong, China.  He lived most of his childhood years in China, specifically in Hong Kong and Taiwan, before returning to the States in 1964, landing initially in New York before his family settled in Southern California.  He graduated Upland High School in 1969 and immediately joined the United States Coat Guard where he met Susan, his wife of 50 years, while stationed in Ketchikan, AK.

After serving in the Coast Guard for 11 years, Tim returned to Ketchikan where he worked in the maritime industry while raising his family.  After retiring from the Alaska Marine Highway System in 2010, he and Susan relocated to Mesquite, Nevada in 2016 to enjoy retirement adventures. He was a member of the ELKS USA, the American Legion and a life member of the NRA. Tim was a marksman shooter who enjoyed hunting, woodworking, fishing, tinkering, camping, traveling and most of all, spending time with his family.

He is survived by his wife, Susan Herington Sturgess, daughter; Alicia Marie Fisher, son; Timoth William Sturgess, Jr., 4 grandchildren, and sister, Lynn Larson.  He is preceded in death by his son; Duane Michael Sturgess, mother; Freda Sturgess and father; William Sturgess.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a cancer foundation of your choice.
