Oliver Theodore Haugen, age 71, died at his home on Monday, January 1, 2018 in Overton, Nevada. He was born April 12, 1946 in Thief River Falls, Minnesota to Oliver and Mildred Hoaas Haugen.

Ted lived his early life in Thief River Falls. He served in the US Army during the Vietnam Conflict. Ted was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal and a Vietnam Service Medal with one Bronze Service Star. After his honorable discharge, he went back to his hometown where he started his family and worked for UPS and Arctic Cat. He relocated to the Southwest in the early ‘80's, and pursued a career as a Heavy Equipment Operator, helping to lay the groundwork for many of the Casinos on the strip that stand today. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and anything with a motor. He always had a German Shepherd named Buddy and he loved his Minnesota Vikings. Ted was proud to be a life member of the Veterans Of Foreign Wars Post #8336.

Survivors include two sons and one daughter: Jerod (Tammy) of Thief River Falls, MN; Jason (Rose) of Saint Joseph, MN; Alicia (Ron) Smrekar of Lakeville, MN; eight grandchildren and two sisters: Gloria Lauhoff of Spakane, WA and Marilyn Fischer of Plummer, MN. He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Marge and Deborah.

A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, January 27, 2018 at 4:00 p.m. at the Red Rooster, 329 S. Moapa Valley Boulevard, Overton, NV 89040.  Please join us to celebrate Ted's life and share memories.  Friends and family are invited to sign our online guest book at www.moapavalleymortuary.com
