Susan Lynne Adams Barlow, 78, passed away peacefully on March 18, 2025, in Logandale, Nevada surrounded by loved ones. She was born on November 15, 1946, in the hospital in Overton, Nevada to Lynn Adams and Nola Andersen. Susan spent her childhood in Moapa Valley. She later moved with her family to Las Vegas, where she spent her early teen years and attended one year at Western High School. When Susan was 15, she moved back to Moapa Valley to live in Overton with her grandparents, Carrie and Faye Andersen. Carrie, a gifted cook and homemaker, passed these talents down to Susan.
Susan attended Moapa Valley High School, where she enjoyed marching with the Debonettes drill team. It was at MVHS where Susan met and fell in love with Doug Barlow. Their connection was undeniable. Susan graduated from MVHS in 1964 and enrolled in Beauty School. Shortly thereafter, she married Doug on July 17, 1964. On December 7, 1968, their marriage was sealed for eternity in the St. George, Utah Temple. For over 60 years, they built a life filled with love and unwavering devotion to each other.
Susan was a woman of strength, intelligence, and boundless energy. She was not afraid of hard work. She could whip up a delicious meal, then hop on a tractor to help with the alfalfa harvest or tackle a tile-laying project. She even purchased her own miter saw while in her 70s to re-do the baseboard in her home. She was sharp, hardworking, and always eager to learn something new. She had a keen mind and an understanding for business. She supported her husband’s successful business ventures as his unofficial CEO, meticulously tracking both personal and business finances and tax documents. She had a thirst for learning and was always eager to take on something new. She found joy in playing games with her family, doing jigsaw puzzles, and reading a good mystery novel. She loved the water and swimming. Susan spent many happy hours boating at the lake with her family and hosting family pool parties in her own backyard, and she loved visiting the beach and ocean whenever she had the chance.
A devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Susan had a deep and abiding love for the Lord. She faithfully served in numerous callings, particularly those that allowed her to uplift and guide the youth. She enjoyed serving in the Young Women’s program for many years, and her cooking, homemaking, and compassionate service skills were of great value during the years she served in the Relief Society presidency. Susan had a life-long love for family history and temple work. In the early days of her marriage, she spent hours hand-typing genealogies and creating Books of Remembrance for her children. She learned to utilize the computerized family history options when they became available and spent years working at the Family History Center, sharing her skills and knowledge in this capacity. Alongside Doug, she cherished the opportunity to serve an eighteen-month mission at Heber Valley Girls’ Camp, where they made lifelong memories. She and Doug also loved traveling, camping in their RV, and swimming together. They shared an unmatched devotion to each other. Their marriage was a beautiful example of true love.
Susan’s greatest joy was her family. She was a devoted wife, a loving mother, a cherished grandmother, and a treasured great-grandmother. She loved cooking for, swimming with, playing games and laughing with her children and grandchildren. She enjoyed sharing her skills, teaching her children and grandchildren how to cook, can, knit, crochet, quilt, and even lay tile and cut baseboard.
Above all, Susan’s life was grounded in her deep love for her husband and family and her unwavering faith in the Lord. She and Doug shared a bond built on devotion, teamwork, mutual respect, and most importantly, true love.
She is survived by her husband, Douglas K. Barlow; her children, Kent (Kay) Barlow, Tracy (Fred) Christensen, Carolyn (Darren) Burkett, Steven (Joy) Barlow, and Justin Barlow; her twenty grandchildren; her twelve great-grandchildren, with two more on the way; and her siblings, Jerrye McEwen and Mike Adams. She is preceded in death by her parents, and her daughter, Lynne Barlow.
