Shirley Shumway Redd beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend died peacefully Saturday, June 4, 2011 leaving all those who loved her with an abundance of unforgettable memories. She was born November 30, 1925 to Arah and Grace Powell Shumway in Blanding, Utah. She loved and cherished Blanding and Monticello where she spent most of her 85 years. The last year of her life she was cared for lovingly by her daughter and family in Alamo, Nevada where she enjoyed the warmth of the Nevada sun.
She married the late Elmo Hardison Redd on February 24, 1951. They were later sealed in the Manti LDS Temple. They are the parents of one son and three daughters: Reagan Elmo (Floris) of Lakewood, CO; Karla (Kelly) Jensen of Alamo, NV; Arah (Wade) Dalton of Monticello, UT; Cynthia (Rick) Adams of Sandy, UT. They were later divorced. She is also survived by 13 grandchildren; 24 great grandchildren; three brothers and two sisters: Shannon Hammond of Pioche, NV; Jolene Bailey of Salt Lake City, UT; Keith (Corinne) of St. George, UT; Gary (Sandy) of TX and Francine (Ron) Sumner of Orem, UT. She was preceded in death by one grandson, two brothers and one sister.
Just after high school, Shirley worked as a switchboard operator at Hill Air Force Base during WWII. She later worked for many years for the City of Monticello. She loved to ski on the Blue Mountain, play bridge, read and walk with her dear friend Donna. She treasured the time she spent with her brothers and sisters. She will be remembered as a witty, self reliant, fun loving mother and grandmother. Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 11, 2011 at 11 a.m. at the North Monticello LDS Chapel. Visitation will be held from 9:30 - 10:30 a.m. prior to services.
