Mesquite, Nevada – Shirley Nelda Nielsen slipped quietly away at her home in Mesquite on Sunday, January 26, 2020. She was born June 13, 1935 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Neldon Peter and Geraldine (Hammond) Miner. Shirley grew up in Salt Lake City where she met and married Lee R. Richmond December 29, 1952. Subsequent to his passing June 11, 1998, she married Claude R. "Doc" Nielsen April 28, 2008 in Mesquite.
Shirley was a bright light that touched people all over the world through her travels and friendships. She was an artist who made the world a more beautiful place. Shirley loved to sing and enjoyed karaoke and hoped to one day be a star. Now she is the biggest star of all.
Shirley is survived by Claude R. Nielsen of Mesquite; two children: Pam (Dennis) Alsop of Midway, UT, Bret (Ann Rene’) Richmond of Ogden, UT; five grandchildren: Ryan (Stacey) Richmond, Aubrie Richmond, Jaime’ (Darl) Eblen, David (Heather) Alsop, and Joseph (Megan) Alsop; and 11 great grandchildren: Sebastian Eblen, Devon Eblen, Alex Eblen, Luke Alsop, Caden Alsop, Porter Alsop, Ryland Alsop, Roman Alsop, Grant Alsop, Theo Alsop, and Ace Richmond and one sister, Cherrie Nordgren of Salt Lake City, UT. She was preceded in death by one brother, Gerald "Sonny" Miner
The Family wishes to express their gratitude for the kind service rendered to Shirley in her final days by the staff at Mesa View Hospice.
Funeral services will be held Friday, January 31, 2020 at 11 a.m.at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 121 Whipple Way in Mesquite, NV. A viewing will take place from 9:00 to 10:30 a.m. prior to the services. Interment will be in the Mesquite City Cemetery under the direction of Virgin Valley Mortuary, Mesquite, NV.
