Shirley Miars

December 3, 1924 — August 13, 2008

Shirley Miars, Age 83, devoted wife and mother, passed away peacefully in her sleep at Highland Manor of Mesquite on August 13, 2008 after a long battle with Alzheimer's Disease. Shirley was born on December 3, 1924 in Montevideo, Minnesota to George and Mae Marholz (Martin). She married James Miars in Minneapolis, Minnesota in 1947.

Shirley spent most of her life in the State of Minnesota, until she relocated with her family to Mesquite in December of 1994. She worked in Seattle as "Rosie the Riveter" during World War II and was primarily a top notch homemaker and mother thereafter. She successfully held various other jobs when it was necessary or if she so desired.

Shirley was a proud member of the auxiliaries of Star Spangled Banner V.F.W. Post 1149 in Minneapolis, Minnesota, Forest Lake American Legion Post 225 in Forest Lake, Minnesota and The Military Order of the Ladybugs. She enjoyed being an active participant in the activities of those organization during the 1970's and 1980's.

Shirley was an excellent seamstress, very skilled with all needlecrafts as well. She enjoyed golf, bowling and other recreational sports. She loved music and was a good piano and organ player. She loved to entertain friends and family in her home.

Shirley is survived by her loving husband James, son Kurk and daughter Terry Torbeck all of Mesquite, Nevada, grandson Shawn Martin of Castle Rock, Colorado and great grandson Tyler. She was preceded in death by her sister, Francis Docken of Maynard, Minnesota.

Memorial Services will be held in Mesquite, Nevada and Minneapolis, Minnesota at an undetermined later date. Interment will be at Fort Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis, Minnesota at that time. Friends may call or E-mail at any time.
