Shirley Ashdown Adams

April 10, 1935 — June 4, 2009

Mesquite, Nevada - Shirley Adams, 74, passed away on Thursday June 4, 2009 at her home of natural causes. She was born April 10, 1935, in Bountiful Utah to Wallace and Norma Curtis Ashdown. She married and was sealed to eternal sweetheart Blair J. Adams, September 11, 1953 in the Salt Lake Temple.

Shirley was raised in Bountiful, Utah. Growing up Shirley always had a horse and became an excellent trick rider for local rodeos. Blair and Shirley loved music and usually had a house full of all ages, who also loved music. Together they ran a music store in Layton, Utah. For a time they lived in Okinawa, Japan while she and Blair were employed by the United States Air Force. While in Okinawa they traveled extensively throughout the South Pacific, and made many lifelong friends. When they returned to Utah she worked in medical billing and became very skilled in that field.

Blair and Shirley retired to Mesquite Nevada. In Mesquite they were accepted by a town full of friends. Shirley loved Mesquite and said that every meal was a picnic and every day a holiday. Blair has been active with his music and Shirley was his greatest fan. Shirley was always active in the LDS church and held many callings. She loved the youth and the youth programs, and she loved children. Her testimony helped her and Blair raise three daughters, one son, a foster daughter, and many neighborhood children.

Shirley loved those around her, and all that knew her loved her. Shirley was always concerned about her friends and family. Her favorite times were partying with her friends and family. Shirley loved to cook and entertain. In her later years because of ill health she was unable to do those things, and it broke her heart. Shirley leaves behind a loving husband (Blair) Mesquite Nevada, three daughters, David (Cheryl) Gillies, Farmington, Utah, Darrell (Vicki) Stikes North Ogden, Utah, Boyd (Kerri) Jewkes Kaysville, Utah and son (Michael) and Toni Adams Layton, Utah. The joy in her life was the 16 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren that will never forget the greatest grandma. Shirley also leaves behind two brothers and one sister. (Larry) and Norma Ashdown Sunset, Utah, (Robert) and Beth Ashdown, Bountiful, Utah, Dan and (Melva) Kranendonk, Salt Lake City, Utah. Shirley is preceded in death by her parents Wallace and Norma Ashdown and her sister and brother in law - (Norma) and Stan Kitterman. Shirley was the greatest wife, mother, grandmother and friend and will be missed by many.

Funeral Services will be June 9, 2009 at 11:00 at the LDS Mesquite Whipple Chapel. A viewing will be held on Monday June 8, 2009 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at the Virgin Valley Mortuary, and at 10:00 am on Tuesday at the Mesquite LDS Whipple Chapel.

Funeral Services will also be held on June 10, 2009 at 11:00 in Layton, Utah. There will be a viewing that morning at 9:00 am at the LDS Forest Park Chapel, 2250 East 2300 North, Layton UT 84040.
