Rulon Max Huntington
Rulon was born 28 September, 1918 in Midway, Utah to his parents George Augustus and Elizabeth Ross Huntington at the family homestead on Stringtown Road. He died in his 92nd year at the home of his son David on 28 June, 2010 in Pepperell, Massachusetts where he was convalescing following reconstructive knee surgery after a severe fall near his home in Overton, Nevada.
He was preceded in death by his beloved eternal companion, Vonda Horner Huntington, his parents and nine brothers and sisters. Rulon and Vonda were married January 10th 1938 in the Salt Lake Temple. They made homes in Midway, UT, Vale OR, Ontario OR, Brigham City, UT and the last 35 years in Overton, NV. Rulon is survived by his only child, a son, David Rulon and daughter-in-law, Peggy Wright Huntington of Pepperell, Massachusetts. He is also survived by 6 grandchildren and their families: Mindi Jo Schmidlin (Gardnerville, Nevada), Dee R Huntington (Charleston, Utah), Jared R Huntington (New Hartford, Iowa), Tara Lee Harris (Salem, Massachusetts), Samuel David Huntington (Rosenburg, Texas) and Amanda Ann Huntington (Pepperell, Massachusetts). He also adored his 11 great-grandchildren. He and Vonda volunteered over the years as loving foster parents to 7 children.
Rulon loved music. He had an outstanding tenor voice and was honored to sing at literally hundreds of funerals, community and church events over the years. He was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, and enjoyed many callings of service to his church and fellow men. He loved most, the opportunities he had of serving as a Home Teacher to many of his beloved friends. Rulon and Vonda served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints at the St. George, Utah Temple Visitor Center and Church Historical Sites. He also loved his service as an ordinance worker in the Las Vegas Nevada Temple.
In his last years, Rulon devoted many hours of volunteer service to Family Search Indexing. His goal was to digitize 100,000 names from photographic census, marriage and death records. He completed a total of 97,100 names to assist future generations in the search for their ancestors.
Rulon served as president of the Moapa Valley Senior Citizens organization and received 3 service awards from the Governor of Nevada.
He was a man of many honorable occupations: Farmer in Midway, UT and Vale OR, owner of 3 furniture and floor covering businesses in Ontario and Vale OR and Brigham City, UT, owner of a grocery and general merchandise market in Midway, UT, manager of Western Auto hardware store, Overton, NV, and manager of Robbins Nest Mobile Village, Overton, NV.
Services will be held Friday, July 2, 2010 in the Overton 2nd Ward Chapel at 11 a.m. with visitation from 9:30 - 10:30 prior at the chapel. Interment will be on Saturday, July 3, 2010 at 10 a.m. (Utah Time) in the Midway, UT Cemetery.
Rulon's kind and gentle nature touched many lives. He was respected and loved by all who knew him.
