Robert Leland Thornton

Robert Leland Thornton, 70, passed away Monday, June 24, 2013 at his Mesquite, Nevada residence. He was born August 21, 1942 in Texas to Orville Thornton and Pauline Freeman. He married Carleen Kline on December 7, 1989 in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. Robert graduated from high school in West Covina and earned his Bachelor's Degree at the University of Southern California. In 2002 he retired from Fairbanks. He was the president of Teamsters Local 959 and worked at the Palms mowing the greens. Robert was very active in sports and loved golf. He is survived by his wife Carleena Thornton of Mesquite, NV; and his daughters, Nina Kline of Fairbanks, AK; Regan Thornton and Tara Thornton both of Anchorage, AK. A small gathering of friends and family will be held at the Palms Golf Course on Friday, July 5, 2013 from 3:00 -5:00 p.m. Arrangements are under the direction of the Virgin Valley Mortuary at 320 E.
