Robert August Meibaum

March 9, 1930 — January 31, 2017

Robert August Meibaum, 86, passed away January 31, 2017 in Mesquite, NV. He was born on March 9, 1930 to Walter and Augustine Meibaum in St. Louis, MO.

Robert was raised in St. Louis with his two older brothers, Walter and Raymond. He attended Lindenwood Elementary School and Southwest High School before he joined the Army in 1951 to 1954, he retired as a Sergeant. Throughout his early years, he was interested in photography. After his Army service, he attended Rochester Institute of Technology.

Robert spent most of his professional career working for EGG. In this capacity, he was in charge of the unit that photographed the atomic bomb testing at the Nevada Test Site. The famous picture of the mushroom cloud created by the blast was taken by Bob and his crew. Bob was not all work. He found many opportunities to travel around the U.S., Hawaii, and international locations and vacation areas. Overall, he had a very active adventurous life. He loved life to the fullest.

Robert is survived by his brother, Walter Jr.

There will be a Graveside Service held for Robert Meibaum at the Mesquite City Cemetery on Friday, February 3, 2017 at 2:00 p.m., followed by a Celebration of Life at Robert's home. The family invites you to leave a message or memory in our "Guest Book" at www.virginvalleymortuary.com.
