Robert Mason "Bob" Dula, age 84, passed away Thursday, January 2, 2014 in his home with loved ones present. He was born September 13, 1929 in Wichita, KS to Alfred and Dorothy Kincade Dula. On March 5, 1952 he married Virginia Joyce Cummins of Lawrence, Kansas. Bob was raised in Holyrood, Kansas. After high school, he earned his Bachelors of Science degree at Kansas University, and his Masters Degree in Recreation at Indiana University, and took graduate courses at University of Nebraska. He served as athletic director and head coach at Barnes, KS, Valley Falls, KS and Wathena, KS. He was appointed as Civilian Recreation Director, Lincoln Air Force base in 1958 at Lincoln, NE. In 1965, Bob was appointed Recreation Director for the city of Lincoln, where he was instrumental in starting the 7th St. Recreation Center and the 4th of July Celebration at the Holmes Lake. Then he was appointed Recreation & Parks Consultant for the University of Nebraska in 1967. He then established his own private consulting firm in the recreational field. He continued with his love in recreation, serving as the first President of the Nebraska Parks and Recreation Association Bob was always the athlete; he competed in football, basketball, track, tennis, swimming and more throughout his life. Also, he officiated many high school and college athletic events. Later, he worked in real estate for Woods Bros, Swanson, and Town & Country Real Estate. In 1977 he established Dula Realty as a broker. He was a builder and developer of commercial retail buildings and apartments. Bob was active in his spiritual life; he was a member of Southview Christian Church since 1958, serving as Elder, Deacon, Trustee, etc. He was a former member of Jaycees Executive Club, American Legion Post 3 and the Elks Lodge. After relocation to Mesquite, he continued his spiritual path; and he and Virginia became loyal participants of Valley Presbyterian Church. Bob is survived by his beloved wife Virginia Cummins Dula of Mesquite, NV; daughter, Linda Britton and her husband Larry of Mesquite, NV and CO; son, Michael Dula and his wife Gloria of Irvine, CA; sister, Betty Jo Kahler of Longmont, CO; 3 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; 2 nieces; 1 nephew and numerous close friends and extended family. Services will be held at Lincoln Memorial Park Chapel located 6800 South 14th St., Lincoln, Nebraska on Wednesday, January 8, 2014 at 12:30 PM. Reception following the memorial service at the Chapel. The family is asking that any memorial donations be made to Valley Presbyterian Church at 350 Falcon Ridge Pkwy., Mesquite, NV 89027.
