Richard Arthur Robinson, age 77, has gone to heaven to join our beloved family members. Richard passed away peacefully at his home in Moapa, Nevada on Tuesday, June 16, 2015. He was born April 5, 1938 in Ogden, Utah to Elmer Smith and Ora Mae Willden Robinson. In September of 1955 he married Patricia Torrence in Fredonia, Arizona. They had four beautiful children together and later parted ways. In June of 2002, Richard married his sweetheart, Bonnie Veater, in Kanab, Utah.
Richard spent his early years in Kanab, until the age of fourteen when his family relocated to Henderson, Nevada. He and Patricia raised their four children, Rick, Bobby Joe, Susie, and Sharie, in Henderson. Richard became a part of Henderson's history as the youngest business owner in town at the young age of nineteen, when he owned and operated a service station. A photo of him in front of that gas station is used regularly by the City of Henderson in many of their advertisements and historical accounts of the city. He went on to work for American Linen Supply as a salesman/delivery driver for several years. In 1981 Richard was hired at the Pacific Engineering and Production Co. of Nevada (PEPCON), a rocket fuel production plant. He worked as a Millwright until the fateful morning of May 4, 1988 when the plant tragically and unexpectedly exploded. His proximity to the explosion left him severely injured, leading to a medical retirement. Kanab always held a special place in Richard's heart and he later returned there to live, where he met and married his sweetheart, Bonnie Veater. Together, Richard and Bonnie were able to enjoy the peace, beauty and tranquility that Kanab has to offer for many years.
Richard always loved the outdoors- camping, fishing, hunting and creating memorable experiences with his family. He was an avid gardener and always had exquisite flowers and vegetable gardens at his home. Richard's knack for gardening started at an early age when he fell in love with his mother and grandmother's beautiful flower bushes. He nourished and continued to grow their rose bushes, lilacs, amaryllis, sweet peas and crape myrtle for many years, transplanting them to each new location he moved to. Some of the flower bushes are now over one-hundred years old! Richard loved western movies and books and has read every Louis L'Amour book ever written, some multiple times.
Our hearts are broken, as we will miss him so. Richard is predeced in death by his parents Elmer and Ora; wife, Bonnie; siblings, Ilene, Estelle, and KC; son, Bobby Joe; grandson, Little Bob. Richard's survivors include one son and two daughters: Rick (Verna) of Moapa, NV; Susie (Lloyd) Reardon; Sharie (Steven) Orlando, both of Henderson, NV; five grandchildren; six great grandchildren; two brothers and two sisters: Larry of Hurricane, UT; Paul of Pioche, NV; Gwen (Bob) Hughes of Henderson, NV and Bonnie (Kevin) Jacobson of Pioche, NV.
A Graveside Memorial Service will be held in Richard's Honor on Saturday, June 27, 2015 at 1 p.m. at the Kanab City Cemetery under the direction of Mosdell Mortuary, 435-644-2214.
