Richard Carl Jarrett

February 5, 1935 — January 21, 2017

Richard (Dick) Carl Jarrett, 81, passed away Saturday, January 21, 2017 in Mesquite, Nevada in his home. He was born February 5, 1935 in Chetopa, Kansas to Carl and Helen Nevins Jarrett. He married Diane Dalton June 26, 1954 in California.

Dick spent his younger years in Durham, Arkansas. He lived with his Grandpa and Grandma Nevins after the death of his father when he was 2. He had great memories and loved that time in his childhood. He had many stories about the old time store they ran and how he helped with chores. He'd talk about how much he liked his grandma's cooking and that she never wasted anything including a good squirrel.

Dick moved to Compton, California when he was 12. He would ride a bus every night to meet his mother when she got off work late, then ride the bus home and still have to go to school in the morning. He always adored his mother who worked hard to take care of him and his 2 sisters.

He enlisted in the Navy in 1953 and served on the U.S.S. Oriskany Aircraft Carrier. He was very proud and talked a lot about his days on the ship.

He and Diane had 3 children in California and moved to Grand Junction, CO in 1969. Dick was a machinest and machine shop supervisor for Coors Tek before he retired. Dick and Diane came to Mesquite, NV in 1996.

In his younger years, he loved deep sea fishing in California. After moving to Colorado he enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping and golfing. He was a former member of the Mesquite Mens Golf Association.

Dick had good memories from times spent with his family. He had many fun hunting and fishing trips with his son, Darin and daughter, Sherry and son in law, Kevin. He golfed at a lot of different places with his daughter, Cindy and son-in-law, Ron. He still talked about a fishing trip with Ron to Canada and his helicopter ride at the Grand Canyon. He relished the time spent with his grandchildren camping, going to arcades and their sporting events. Dick and Diane also had a most memorable trip to Lake Tahoe and family celebration for their 50th anniversary.

Dick is survived by his wife Diane of 62 years; daughters Cindy (Ron), and Sherry (Kevin); son Darin (Jessica) and daughter-in-law Vicki -who he thought was a great cook; 5 grandchildren: Karrie (Luke), Autumn (Patrick), Amber (Nathan), Brandi Jaramillo and Taylor Jarrett; and 10 great grandchildren: Ryan, Blaine, Cameron, Tyler, Cody, Conner, Colby, Summyr, Lexi and Kayla.

Dick requested no services and wanted his family to have a celebration at his favorite camping and fishing spot at Vega Reservoir in Colorado. The family invites you to leave a message or memory in their "Guest Book" at www.virginvalleymortuary.
