Richard Smith Genseal
Richard Smith Genseal "Gunner", age 76, died Wednesday, August 12, 2009 He was born June 25, 1933 in Beardstown, Illinois to Joseph Robert and Anna Mae Smith. On June 7, 1957 he married Doreen Ann Starr in Henderson, Nevada. Dick grew up in Beardstown where he was the only student every year in his class at the Swan Lake School. He graduated from Beardstown High School, and left Beardstown when he joined the US Air Force where he served in the Korean War. After 4 years in the service, he moved to Henderson. In 1965, he moved to Logandale and was one of first men who started the Reid Gardner Power Station. He was the founder and coordinator of the Reid Gardner Employees Christmas Classic. Dick was a member of the Moapa Valley Boosters Club and served as president for a year. He was a sports fan and loved to bowl. Dick enjoyed the outdoors, traveling, fishing, gardening, John Deere Tractors, and spending time at the cabin. He was a wonderful grandfather who loved spending time grandchildren. He also loved his country and talking politics. Survivors include his wife, Doreen; two daughters and two sons: Margaret Genseal of Logandale, NV; Stephen (Patricia) Genseal of Beltsville, MD; Richard (Carol) Genseal of Elko, NV; Anne Genseal of Las Vegas, NV: 3 grandchildren ; a brother Norman "Pete" Genseal; two sisters Jean (Dick) Tyson, Joan (Bernard) McFetridge and sister in law Grace Genseal. He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers Ralph "Fritz", Jackie Lester, Bill; and two sisters, Patricia, and Kay and a sister in law Alice. Funeral services will be held Monday, August 17, 2009, at 12:00 noon at the Moapa Valley Mortuary. Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon at the Mortuary prior to services. A private interment will be in the Logandale Cemetery under the direction of Moapa Valley Mortuary. In lieu of flowers memorial donation can be made to a pet charity of you choice in the name of Richard Genseal.
