Richard E. Dennis
Richard E. Dennis, 82, passed away in his home in Mesquite, Nevada, December 04, 2011, with his loving, devoted wife of 55 years, Joan, at his side and his loyal dog, Bentley in his lap. Richard was born June 16, 1929 in Minneapolis, Minnesota to Roy and Stephanie Janowic Dennis. He grew up in Robbinsdale, Minnesota. He entered the army in 1946 and served in Korea where he was quickly promoted to section leader and operated the Howitzer Cannon. He received the Army of Occupational Medal and World War II Victory Medal for his years of service. Upon his return to Minnesota, he attended the University of St. Thomas where he earned his bachelor's degree. After marrying Joan, he went to work for IBM and was transferred to California where he lived and raised their 4 children for the next 40 years. After leaving IBM he developed and was president of ADP (Automatic Data Processing) and went on to start and sell various business' there after, including Bureau of Commercial Collections and Professional Recovery Systems. Richard and Joan moved to Mesquite, Nevada in 2004 for a quieter place to live. Richard was a loving father who always put his family first and enjoyed spending time with them. Even though he was a workaholic, he always made time for his family and made them feel special and loved. From Little League baseball coach and football fanatic for his sons to horse hauler and show attendee for his daughter, he was always there. Even though he spent his final years battling Alzheimer's Disease and not remembering people's names or their relation to him, he would always get a spark when he saw every loved one. He was a perfectionist in everything he did and loved to work with his hands, always having some project he could get his children involved with. He could be out in the garage building something and have bread rising in the house at the same time. He was a wonderful cook and baker. Some of his favorite past-times included fishing with his children and grandchildren off his houseboat on Lake Shasta, to traveling far and wide with his wife, Joan. Richard is survived by his wife, Joan, brothers, Roy and Don, sons David and Douglas, daughter Diane, grandchildren Mikaela, Chris, Katrina, Holden and David, as well as great-grandchildren, Jaedyn and Xayne. He is preceded in death by his parents and son Daniel.
