Richard Grant
Beloved father, grandfather, brother, uncle , husband and friend, Richard (Dick) Alfred Grant, 70, passed away May 22, 2011 in Mesquite, Nevada.
Richard was born April 4, 1941, to Richard W. and Dorothy Vander Waag Grant in Granger, Utah. He married Shirley Ann Thomas, Novermber 29, 1958. Their marriage was solemnized on November 29, 1959 in the Salt Lake Temple.
They were proud parents of children Lynn, David, Melissa and Lori. Dick retired from Wasatch Electric in Salt Lake City in 2001. He and Shirley then moved to Mesquite to improve their health conditions and enjoy the sunshine. Shirley passed away in 2005. In 2007, Dick married Julie Hansen.
With an endearing wit and infectious smile, Dick soon became friends with everyone he met. He was blessed with a beautiful bass singing voice and performed in musicals, quartets and ward choirs. Dick was a devoted and active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and served in many capacities as well as an ordinance worker in the St. George Temple. His greatest assets were his children and grandchildren to whom he as totally devoted.
He is preceded in death by his wife Shirley and children Lynn and Melissa. Survived by wife Julie, son David, daughter Lori (Mike) Kelsey and step-daughter Angela (Fa'afo'i) Aiono as well as grandchildren Brandon Grant, Jadie (Dallas) Hunt, Cole Kelsey, Ryeley and Raines Kelsey and Ian and Avian Aiono; brothers James (Bonnie) Grant, Steve (Shauna) Grant; sisters Linda (Don) Little, Sandra (Brian) Low and Dianne (Craig) Phillips and several nieces and nephews.
Services will be held in Mesquite, Thursday, May 26 at 11:00 am in the LDS Whipple Chapel (121 Whipple Way, Mesquite, NV 89027). A viewing will be held from 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm, Wednesday, May 25 at the LDS Whipple Chapel on Thursday May 26 from 10:00 am - 10:45 am at the LDS Whipple Chapel. Services in Salt Lake City will be held on Thursday and Friday, please refer to the Salt Lake Tribune, Deseret News and McDougall Funeral Home for details.
