Ray then opened Ray Gubser Detective Agency.

Ray’s wife, Anita, passed away in 1980 due to cancer. Ray later married Francis Gilbreath, a retired probation/police officer, in 1980. They began to travel, fish and hunt in throughout the western United States. Over the years, they had homes in Washington, Oregon, New Mexico, and finally Overton, NV. Fran passed away in 2020.
