William Ralph Spencer, age 81, died Saturday, July 26, 2014 at his home in Stewarts Point, south of Overton, Nevada. He was born December 5, 1932 to Charles William (Bill) and Elizabeth Rosalie (Rose) Gates Spencer in Whitham, Missouri. He was the second of five children. On November 15, 1953 he married Joyce Nadine Perkins in Marshall, Missouri. Ralph graduated from Northwestern High School in Mendon, Missouri, class of 1951. He then graduated from Utilities Engineering Institute in Chicago in 1956. He worked in farming and welding in Missouri until buying a cattle ranch in Gunnison, Utah in 1977. In 1992 they moved to Overton where they opened The Inside Scoop, Ice Cream and deli.
Ralph was always a hard worker, he enjoyed working with his hands and tending to his animals. He loved fishing and being in the mountains and visiting with his customers, young and old in his restaurant. He loved spending time with his family and enjoyed every moment spent with them. Even when times got tough, he held strong. He loved every one of his grandchildren and was most happy when they were all together. He had a great sense of humor and will be remembered for his devotion to his sweetie and their children.
Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Joyce; two sons and two daughters: Kevin of Joplin, MO; Will of Bisbee, AZ; Marsha (Mark) Lockwood of Tucson, AZ; Tish (Chris) Cook of Overton, NV; ten grandchildren; three great grandchildren and one brother, J.W. (Viola) Spencer of Mendon, MO. He was preceded in death by three sisters.
A celebration of his life will be held Thursday, August 7, 2014 from 7 - 9 p.m. at his granddaughters home, 1965 Clover Hollow Avenue, Logandale, Nevada.
