Philip Wiser

Philip Smith Wiser, age 90, passed away Thursday, August 19, 2010 peacefully at his home in Las Vegas, Nevada. He was born March 4, 1920 in Logan, Utah to Myron Cunningham and Zelma Smith Wiser. On May 5, 1944 he married Marian Naomi Sudekum in the Logan LDS Temple. She preceded him in death on April 28, 2007.

Philip grew up in Lewiston, Utah. He served in the US Army during WWII in the European Theater. After the war, he moved to Southern Idaho where he started his family. In 1964 he moved his family to Las Vegas, Nevada. In 1966 they moved to Southern Utah, then back to Las Vegas in 1983. After he retired they lived in Chewelah, WA, Kingman, AZ , Pahrump, Nevada before coming back to Las Vegas to be near family. He worked in various jobs including as a security guard at the Nevada Test Site, but his passion was farming and building houses.

Always active in the LDS Church, he served a mission with his wife in Roanoke, Virginia. He enjoyed horses, working with wood and studying building plans. His greatest joy came from his family and doting on his grandchildren.

Survivors include four sons and two daughters: John (Martha) of Boise, ID; Dallan (GayeLynne) of LaVerkin, UT; Melanie (Karl) Wilson of LaVerkin, UT; Kellee (Ron) Smith of Auburn, WA; Gary (Kristi) of Las Vegas, NV; Jerry (Helen) of Las Vegas, NV: son in law, Wayne (Helen) Gardner of Herriman, UT; daughter in law, Janice (Marv) Johnson of St. George, UT; 38 grandchildren; 47 great grandchildren; three brothers and one sister: Lyman (Ramona) of S. Ogden, UT; Wallace (Bea) of Lewiston, UT; Lawrence (BillieLou) of Lewiston, UT; Lois (MelRoy) Ballard of Benson, UT and one sister in law, Kathryn Wiser of Nampa, ID. He was preceded in death by one son, Charles; two daughters, Janell and Alison; one sister, Edna and one brother, Theron.

Funeral services will be Friday, August 27, 2010 at 10 a.m. at the Tule Springs Stake Center, 7500 Tule Springs, Las Vegas, Nevada. Visitation will be from 8:30 - 9:30 a.m. prior to services at the chapel. Interment will follow at 1:20 p.m. at the Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Boulder City, Nevada
