Paul Weigel

Paul Weigel, 95, of Aurora, Colorado passed away on January 19, 2017 in Mesquite, Nevada where he recently moved to be with his daughter. Paul was born in Ellis, Kansas to Bernard Joseph Weigel (also known as Ben J.) and Elizabeth Wittman. He graduated from Ellis High School where he played football and ran in track. He then served four years in the U.S. Marine Corps. Paul married Regina Weber, the two having been neighbors throughout childhood. He began a lifelong career with United Airlines starting as a Line Mechanic in Cheyenne, WY. He transferred to San Francisco then to Denver where he completed courses that qualified him for the position of Flight Simulator Technician at United’s pilot training center, a position he held until retiring.

Paul was a master of all things mechanical and a skilled woodworker. He enjoyed reading and following politics and business news. He entertained his family and friends with a dry wit. But mostly, Paul was a devout Catholic who served as a Knight of Columbus and as a Eucharist Minister. On Palm Sunday, he wove palms together to make crosses and other religious symbols. He is preceded in death by his wife Regina who passed away in 2003.

Paul is survived by his three children; Joseph Paul (Susan) Weigel of Knoxville, TN, Kathleen Ann Freeman of Aurora, CO, and Karen Lee (Jeff, passed) Hackler of Overton, NV; three grandchildren; Melissa (David) Leonard, Stephen Joseph (Kristen) Weigel, and Christopher Paul (Megan) Weigel; and seven great-grandchildren; Ben Leonard, Kelsie Leonard, Nicholas Weigel, Madison Weigel, Zoe Weigel, Arthur Weigel, and Ivy Weigel..

The committal service will be held at fort Logan National Cemetery, Staging Area A on April 19th.
