Paul Trom Roden

Paul Trom Roden, 79, passed away on January 30, 2020 at Dixie Regional Hospital in St. George, UT. He was the husband of Signe Karin Roden of Stavanger, Norway. They shared fifty-two years of marriage.

Born in Bisbee, AZ, he was the youngest child and only son of Casper Roden and Luella Trom Roden. The family later moved to Pasadena, CA where Paul spent his childhood and teenage years.

His father passed away when he was twelve, and his sainted mother earned many gray hairs before her time keeping Paul in line.

He graduated from St. Francis High School in La Canada in 1958 and after, ran away to Florida to seek his fortune. He returned to Pasadena less than a year later with some great stories and a "Mom" tattoo, which his mother did not appreciate as much as you might think.

He joined the United States Marine Corps in 1962, rising to the rank of Sergeant and was an expert marksman. After being deployed to both Japan and Vietnam, he later left the Marine Corps and began working for the Pasadena Boys Club.

It was during this time that he began dating his lovely wife, Signe, having seen her by happenstance when she rose to stand from behind the cubicle in the window of the office he happened to be walking by.

They were engaged on October 13, 1967, a Friday the 13th, and because Paul believed in "long engagements", were married six weeks later and thus began fifty-two years of marriage with his best friend.

Paul left the Boys Club and began working his way up the ranks at Shell Oil Company in Ventura, CA in 1968, finally retiring from his position as Production Foreman, after twenty-five years with the company.

He decided retirement wasn’t for him and began working for Vintage Petroleum in 1993 where he worked as a Production Foreman for twelve years until he retired in 2005.

Once again, finding he wasn’t quite ready for retirement, he served as a consultant in the gulf following Hurricane Katrina.

In his years as an oil man, Paul was active with the United Way, Pyles Boys Camp, Petroleum Production Pioneers, and American Petroleum Institute.

He is survived by his wife, Signe; his son, Finn (Stacey) Roden; his daughter, Kimberly (Terje) Roden- Riisnaes; his grandson, Kasper Roden-Riisnaes; his sisters, Jean (Walter) Bronson and Kathryn Roden, and a multitude of nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his beloved mother, Luella Trom Roden, and father, Casper Roden.

He will always be remembered for his generous and kind heart, the mischievous glint in his eye, a never ending willingness for the next adventure, and his undying love and devotion for his family.
