Gene Bennett
Paul Eugene "Gene" Bennett, 81 years old, passed away Saturday, April 11, 2009 in Las Vegas, Nevada. He was born on May 30, 1927 to Verner Alfred and Mildred Ethelyn Lytle Bennett. He was raised in Carson City, Nevada where he met and married his wife of 62 years, Virginia Rae Greene. During World War II he served in the Merchant Marines and the Army. His career with Anaconda Copper Co. near Yerington, Nevada began in 1953 and was interrupted by two years spent in Anchorage, Alaska. He and his family returned to Yerington where they lived until 1976. He and his wife moved to Iran, where he continued two more years as a supervisor with the Anaconda Company. During this time they were able to visit 12 European and Asian Countries.
In addition to his commitment and love for his family, he was an accomplished tap dancer, saddle-bronc rider and horse trainer, champion stock car driver in Alaska and Nevada, Search and Rescue Commander, bowler, golfer and an excellent competitor in any card game.
He is survived by his wife, Virginia of Overton, NV; daughter, Donna (Don) Walker of Las Vegas, NV; sons Steve (Linda) Bennett of Elko, NV; Gary (Pam) Bennett of Bend, OR; and a chosen son, Walter Herbert (Nancy) Greene of Las Vegas, NV; nine grandchildren; twelve great grandchildren, one sister, Elsie Christensen of St. George, UT and many loving extended family members.
Memorial service will be held Saturday, April 18, 2009 at 10 a.m. at the Calvary Community Church, Overton, Nevada. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to either: Calvary Community Church, PO Box 602, Overton, Nevada 89040 or United Seniors, Inc., PO Box 2039, Overton, Nevada 89040
