Ovid Lee Pinckert, 74, passed away on November 24, 2020 in Las Vegas, NV due to complications of COVID-19. Ovid was born on July 3, 1946 in Dimmitt, TX to Robert Lee Pinckert and Leta Mae Fulcher. He grew up fishing and hunting in Durango,Colorado. As a young man, he was a talented athlete, and played football, baseball and basketball. After graduating from high school, he briefly attended University of Northern Colorado and then joined the army, where he fought two tours in the Vietnam War. He was very proud of his military service. Upon returning from the war, he moved his young family from Colorado to Oregon, and joined the Oregon State Police. He had a long and successful career as a Detective, first assigned to the Albany and then Ontario, Oregon posts.
After retirement, he then relocated to Mesquite, Nevada with his wife, Willadean Pinckert, where he spent his time hunting and playing in the desert, often times in his motor home. He was also very involved in the Mesquite Shooters Pistol Club, and enjoyed the company of many close friends, including Dick and Sharon Szarzi, his next-door neighbors and early morning coffee buddies for nearly 15 years. He enjoyed spending time with ALL of his grandchildren and step-grandchildren, especially when he could share his favorite hobbies. Two very special trips he enjoyed were a trip to Alaska with Anna and Brett, and a hunting trip to Texas with James.
Ovid is survived by his son, “OJ” Ovid Lee (Deana) Pinckert Jr.; daughter, Kimberly (Ryan) Seely; grandchildren, James Pinckert, Anna Seely and Brett Seely; sister, Bobbie Carol Massingill; brother, Michael Pinckert; step-children, Kim Pope and Greg Holm; step-grandchildren, Ryan Holm, Sean Holm, Joshua McDougall, Zachary McDougall, and Jordan Pope; and numerous step great-grandchildren, and nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his wife, Willadean Pinckert in December 2013.
