He grew up fishing and hunting in Durango,Colorado. As a young man, he was a talented athlete, and played football, baseball and basketball. After graduating from high school, he briefly attended University of Northern Colorado and then joined the army, where he fought two tours in the Vietnam War.  He was very proud of his military service. Upon returning from the war, he moved his young family from Colorado to Oregon, and joined the Oregon State Police.  He had a long and successful career as a Detective, first assigned to the Albany and then Ontario, Oregon posts.

After retirement, he then relocated to Mesquite, Nevada with his wife, Willadean Pinckert, where he spent his time hunting and playing in the desert, often times in his motor home. He was also very involved in the Mesquite Shooters Pistol Club, and enjoyed the company of many close friends, including Dick and Sharon Szarzi, his next-door neighbors and early morning coffee buddies for nearly 15 years. He enjoyed spending time with ALL of his grandchildren and step-grandchildren, especially when he could share his favorite hobbies. Two very special trips he enjoyed were a trip to Alaska with Anna and Brett, and a hunting trip to Texas with James.
