Nelda Messer

Nelda Carol Messer, age 68, died Sunday, December 14, 2008 at Dixie Regional Medical Center in St. George, Utah. She was born November 26, 1940 in Overton, Nevada. On November 24, 1961 she married Norman Wesley Messer in Overton, Nevada. They had one son and were later divorced.

Nelda lived most of her life in Moapa Valley, graduating in 1959 from Moapa Valley High School. At a young age she developed a love for music that she continued to enjoy throughout her life. She participated in high school musicals, church choirs, and taught both piano and voice lessons for many years. She served on the Moapa Valley Arts Council and sang with the Rainbow Singers and Valley Voices for many years.

She worked for over 20 years at Overton Power as a receptionist. She was always active in the LDS Church, serving in many ways including as a choir director and as a Relief Society teacher. She will be remembered for her beautiful soprano voice, and her devotion to her son and his family.

Survivors include her son, Matthew, his wife, Corinne and their three daughters, Austriana, Madysen and Aria; two brothers and one sister: Glen (Naureen) Swapp of Washington, UT; Maureen (Sheldon) Huntsman of Diamond Valley, UT and John (Joy) Swapp of Samamish, WA.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, December 20, 2008 at 11 a.m. at the Logandale LDS 2nd Ward Chapel. Visitation will be Friday, December 19, 2008 from 6 - 8 p.m. and again Saturday from 9:30 - 10:30 a.m. prior to services at the chapel. Interment will follow at the Pioneer Hill Cemetery under the direction of Moapa Valley Mortuary, 702 398-3600.
