Muriel Gardner Sheets

September 30, 1932 — June 12, 2018

Muriel Gardner Sheets, 85, passed away on June 12, 2018 in Mesquite, NV. She was born on September 30, 1932 in St. Paul, MN to Henry Gardner and Louise Zentic and grew up in Lauderdale, MN. She married Devan Kenneth Sheets in St. Paul, MN on August 2, 1952.

Muriel could do anything.  She loved learning and taught herself accounting, business management, how to use a typewriter, and even how to play the organ.  She worked for Ford Motors as a bookkeeper.  She then owned Fulcon Plastics supplying insulation blankets to concrete workers.  She later bought Arrowhead Builder’s Supply, a hardware store and lumber yard, in Longville, MN.  When Devan said he didn’t know how to run a store like that, she said, “Then you’ll learn!”  For twenty-five years they had great success.

She loved the outdoors of Minnesota and did everything that was possible.  She loved hunting, fishing, camping, boating, water/cross-country skiing, and snowmobiling.  She also loved music and enjoyed playing the organ and piano, and was a wonderful singer and dancer.  Muriel was a beautiful person.  She was known to be very compassionate, but sharp-witted and strong-willed.  She never backed down and would do what was right.  She was a perfectionist in all that she did and her husband thought she always looked lovely.

Muriel is survived by her husband; Devan K. Sheets of Mesquite, NV, her daughter; Susan (Steven) Carlson of Albert Lea, MN, her grandchildren; Ty (Lori) Schommer of Anchorage, AK, Rachel Schommer of Colorado Springs, CO, and Toby (Jennifer) Schommer of Pemberton, MN, her great-grandchildren: Naimy, Alhrik, Gannon, and Adeline of Anchorage, AK, Hannah, Maggie, Jacob, and Lucas of Pemberton, MN and Rebekka Schommer of Colorado Springs, CO, her  great-great-grandchildren; Gage, Josiah, Aadan (deceased), Zaire, Mikiali; and her sister; Elaine Miller of Roseville, MN, and numerous nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents; Henry and Louise Gardner, and sister; Betty Lou Wood.

Muriel will be interred with Devan at Ft. Snelling National Cemetery at a later date.  The family invites you to leave a message or memory in their Guest Book at www.virginvalleymortuary.com
