Mitchell George Clark

November 18, 1951 — December 11, 2021

Mesquite

Mitchell George Clark, age 70, passed away peacefully in his sleep on December 11, 2021. Mitch is now reunited with his parents Raymond and Joan Clark and siblings Stacie Rae Rasmussen and Dana Allen Clark, who preceded him in death.

Mitch was born in Salt Lake City, Utah, on November 18 1951. He attended West High School and earned degrees from the University of Utah and Utah State University. After enough youthful adventure and world travel to inspire a lifetime worth of bedtime stories for his children he settled down, married, and enjoyed the whole host of joys attendant to suburban family life including the occasional family trip to Disneyland and introducing his son to a world of colorful vocabulary through discussions with umpires and opposing coaches at little league baseball games. Mitch was a devoted father and a particularly talented grandfather, sharing secret handshakes with grandchildren that became legendary.

Mitch’s life’s work was dedicated to the protection of children and families. He faithfully served the Utah Department of Child and Family Services over a career that spanned nearly thirty years, and was loved by the people with whom he served.

He retired to Mesquite, Nevada, where he met his wife Alicia Shaner August 25, 2010 and married her April 27, 2013. He would spend his evenings in quiet contemplation with his wife Alicia, in a sunset ritual every evening, known to all who loved them, as back deck time.

Mitch maintained a lifelong passion for baseball, at which he was an especially talented player in his youth, and was well known for his talent for writing. Mitch will be remembered for his taste in the music of the Rolling Stones and his enjoyment for University of Utah athletics. To know Mitch was to love him and be charmed by him, and the impressions he left in the lives of those who loved him will endure forever.

Survived by wife Alicia Clark of Mesquite, NV and children Charlene (Gary) Shales of Noblesville, IN; Tamra (Joshua) Craythorn of Las Vegas, NV; 5 grandchildren, Melissa Shales (Lee) Carnish, Erin Shales; Shiloah, Scarlett and Sheridan Craythorn.  Previous wife Beverly Clark of Sandy, UT and children Matthew (Amanda) of Ogden, UT; Becky (Forrest) McCoy of Renton, WA; 5 grandchildren, Emmy, Xander Clark; Carson, Cailey, Cameron McCoy.

A private Celebration of Life with family members will be in February 2022. Internment for April 2022 will be in SLC, UT.  Anyone interested contact Matt Clark (son) or Becky McCoy (daughter).
