Michael O'Donnal Overson

Michael O'Donnal Overson, age 67, died Monday, March 11, 2013, after a hard fought battle with cancer, in Las Vegas, Nevada. He was born December 1, 1945 in Tempe, Arizona to Ray Emmit and Ila Virgie O'Donnal Overson. On December 2, 1963 he married Glenda Sharon Lott in Las Vegas, NV, they had five children and were later divorced. On June 19, 2000 he married Pamela Elaine Richmond Carrol in Las Vegas, Nevada. She preceded him in death on January 20, 2007. Michael grew up in Albuquerque, NM. He joined the Army and served in Vietnam with the 101st Airborne as a crew chief on a Chinook Helicopter. He later moved to Las Vegas and worked as a Fire Captain for the city of Las Vegas. He retired after over 33 years of service. He raised his family in Overton and had a great passion for flying. He loved anything that flew. He was a flight instructor for ultralight airplanes and his ultralight was well known throughout the valley for doing candy drops for the 4th of July and other occasions. He also enjoyed flying his Navion airplane and taking part in the Veteran's Day Parade, doing a fly-by at the beginning of the parade. He also enjoyed carpentry and building houses. He was an outdoorsman, enjoying hunting, and fishing. He was a thinking man, he was always learning. Michael is survived by four sons; Todd of Las Vegas, NV; Aric (Miriam) of St. George, UT; Cord (LeAnn) of Las Vegas, NV; Seth (Erica) of Phoenix, AZ; son in law, Derek Hafen of Mesquite, NV; 13 grandchildren; one sister, Carolyn (Charles) Yoss of Las Vegas, NV; brothers; Dwane and Frank (Donna) both of Moriarty, NM. He was preceded in death by one daughter, Kim; one grandson, Max and one brother, Ron. Funeral services will be held on Friday, March, 15, 2013 at 11 a.m. at the Logandale Stake Center. Visitation will be from 9:30 - 10:30 a.m. prior to the service at the chapel. Interment will follow in the Logandale Cemetery.
