Merrill A. Greenhalgh

August 9, 1940 — February 18, 2016

Merrill A. Greenhalgh, 75, passed away Thursday, February 18, 2016 in Mesquite, NV from a respiratory illness. He was born August 9, 1940 in Ely, NV to Gene W. and Mern Tiffany Greenhalgh. As a youth in Provo, UT, he was involved in sports, particularly baseball, and played in the All Stars World Series in CA. While attending Provo High School, he continued his interest in sports, music and became involved in student government. He graduated from BYU with a degree in Chemical Engineering. The skills he acquired there helped him with his 35 year career at Kennecott Copper negotiating Union contracts.

In 1961, he married the late Patricia Roylance and together they had a beautiful daughter, Jennifer. He enjoyed helping his father on the Greenhalgh Family fruit orchards in Santaquin and Salem, UT. Although much of his free time was spent in the orchards, he managed to slip away to enjoy hunting with friends.

He and his current wife, Cheryl, of 28 years spent their winters in Mesquite, NV where they enjoyed traveling the world with his favorite being an Alaskan cruise, playing golf and riding ATV’s with their extraordinary neighbors, friends and family. The companionship and love of their dogs always put a smile on his face. Dakota (labradoodle) has been his constant companion the past five years.

He is survived by his wife Cheryl Hanson Greenhalgh of Holladay, UT and Mesquite, NV; daughter Jennifer Allan (Kevin) of Riverton, UT and sister Jinean G. Madsen (Darrell) of Tempe, AZ; brother-in-law Boyd M Thompson; sister-in-law Sharon Hanson Oakley (Don); and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, first wife Patricia Roylance Greenhalgh, brother Douglas S. and wife Barbara Greenhalgh, sister Maureen G. Thompson and grandson Keaton Warren.

There will be a Celebration of Life Wednesday, February 24, at Virgin Valley Mortuary at 320 East Old Mill Road, Mesquite, NV from 5-7 p.m. (PST). On Friday, February 26, at 11 a.m. (MST), a Graveside Service followed by the internment will be held at Evergreen Cemetery in Springville, UT at Highway 89 & 400 East, under the direction of Virgin Valley Mortuary, 702-346-6060.
