Merle V Alexander

March 30, 1923 — December 24, 2016

Mesquite, NV - M. Verline Alexander, 93, passed away December 24, 2016 in the home she shared with her daughter in Mesquite, Nevada. She was born on March 30, 1923 to Ollie Edward Cole and Violet Nettie Coles in Vici, Oklahoma. She married Loyd Pershing Alexander on February 24, 1941 in Moab, Utah. Verline went to school in Vici, OK through the eighth grade. In 1936 her family moved to Austin, Colorado. Several years later she became reacquainted with her childhood friend, Loyd, who had ridden the rails and ended up in Delta, CO. They soon were married and welcomed five children which they raised in the mining areas of western Colorado. She was an avid reader, accomplished seamstress, meticulous embroidery and crochet worker and very supportive, loving wife and mother. Together the family enjoyed camping, traveling, fishing and spending time with extended family. She is survived by her daughters: Janice (Dave) Tucker of Bayfield, CO and Mary Via of Mesquite, NV; 10 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and 22 great-great grandchildren; and one sister Sylva Reese of Mesquite, NV; along with numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Loyd; two sons, Gerry and John; and one daughter Beverly Bates. She will be tremendously missed by those who knew her as the kind and enjoyable lady of love that she was. Funeral arrangements are pending for later in the Spring, 2017. The family invites you to leave a message or memory in their "Guest Book" at www.virginvalleymortuary.com.
