Melvin Karl Marshall

August 27, 1933 — January 9, 2014

Melvin Karl Marshall, age 80, passed away peacefully Thursday, January 9, 2014 at Kolob Care and Rehabilitation in St. George, Utah. He was born August 27, 1933 in St. George, Utah to Karl and Gladys Tobiasson Marshall. He married Sandra Lee Gaw Petrilli on April 27, 1963 in Logandale, Nevada, and were later sealed in the St. George LDS Temple. They were divorced years later.

Melvin lived most of his life in Logandale, Nevada. He spent many years helping his father on the farm. He served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Central American Mission. He always had a special place in his heart for the people of Guatemala. He also attended Brigham Young University and served in the United States Army Reserves. Melvin had an entrepreneurial spirit and spent most of his career in insurance sales. He enjoyed working on the farm, growing vegetables, melons, and, in his later years, palm trees. He also enjoyed reading, studying the gospel, traveling and singing. He will be remembered for his generosity.

Survivors include his six children; Kimberly Heaton (Shawn) of Bedford, Texas; Jeffrey Marshall of Manassas, Virginia; Rebekah Copley (Brian) of Las Vegas, Nevada; Christopher Marshall (Chrisie) of St. George, Utah; Leanna Leavitt (Chris) of Boulder City, Nevada; Courtney Nielsen (Ben) of Eagle Mountain, Utah; 22 grandchildren; two sisters, Evalyn Matthiesen (Bud) of Reno, Nevada and Kathy Leavitt (Russell) of Logandale, Nevada. He was preceded in death by his parents, Karl Edwin and Gladys T. Marshall and his sister, Debra Karleen Marshall.

Funeral Services will be held Saturday, January 18, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Hinckley Chapel. Visitation will be from 9:30 - 10:30 a.m. prior to services at the chapel. Interment will be in the Logandale Cemetery.
