Melanie Jones, aged 61, passed away peacefully November 30, 2020 at the Intermountain Medical Center in Murray, Utah from complications due to liver failure. She was born in Cedar City, Utah on March 2, 1959 to Ivan Mac and Lennie Page Jones.
Melanie grew up in Las Vegas and Logandale, Nevada. After graduating from Moapa Valley High School, she attended Brigham Young University where she graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree +32. Prior to graduating from BYU she served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Bolivia La Paz mission from 1980-1981. After graduation she taught English as a second language in Las Vegas at Orr Middle School and later taught History at W. Mack Lyon Middle School in Overton, Nevada. She also worked for Dr. Randall Jensen at Valley vision and especially enjoyed her time there. She quit working when she needed to care full-time for her father and her brother, which she did faithfully for the final 10 years of her life.
Melanie loved genealogy. She was a gifted genealogist and had the opportunity to help many people connect to their families. She also loved nature and hiking. She had a passion for languages and cultures and, if she had had the chance, she would have traveled the world. She had a talent for learning languages and appreciated different cultures and she has friends all over the world. We always said she was a mini United Nations.
She is survived by her younger siblings Colleen and Tracy of Provo, Utah and Curtis (Holly) of Clarkston, Utah; 3 nephews, Adam, Eric (Lexi), and Joseph (Sami) and 1 niece, Emily; and 3 great nieces Maddie, Dacie, and Andi Jones. She was preceded in death by her parents, Ivan and Lennie Jones, her older brother, Eric, and a great nephew, Jeremy Jones.
