Mearl Austin

September 4, 1920 — October 19, 2014

Mearl Austin, age 94, died peacefully Sunday, October 19, 2014 in St. George, Utah. She was born September 4, 1920 in Brigham City, Utah to Henry Herbert and Nellie Louise Young Pett. On April 12, 1941 she married Hughes Austin in Farmington, Utah. On July 30, 1963 they were sealed in the Salt Lake Temple. He preceded her in death on January 31, 1982.

Mearl grew up in Brigham City, Utah. She raised her family in Utah, California, Nevada and Louisiana while her husband was in the Air Force. They finally settled in Brigham City. She loved playing cards, especially bridge, dancing and watching her 49ers and the Utah Jazz. She was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many positions throughout her life. She took great pride in being a homemaker, cooking, gardening and being there for her husband, children and grandchildren. She will be remembered as a loving, faithful mother and wife.

Survivors include one daughter, Sandra (Terry) Leavitt of Logandale, NV; one son, Terry (Patricia) Austin of Yakima, WA; six grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren and one sister, Mildred (Alfred) Anderson of Brigham City, UT. She was preceded in death by two grandsons, two brothers and three sisters.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, October 25, 2014 at 1:00 p.m (Utah time) at the Gillies Funeral Chapel, 634 E. 200 S., Brigham City, Utah. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the Funeral Chapel. Interment will follow in the Brigham City Cemetery.
