Maxine Waymire

March 20, 1909 — May 24, 2012

Maxine B. Waymire, a long time resident of the Reno, Wadsworth, and Fernley communities, passed peacefully into eternal rest on May 23. Maxine was born March 20, 1909 in the ranching community of Raven, about 10 miles south of New Castle, Colorado, to Joe and Emma Porter Collins. She attended a one-room schoolhouse, on Mamm Creek, a few miles from her family home. She became an excellent horse-woman at a very early age, helping her father with ranch work and riding horseback to school. She was still riding as the years went by: at the age of 89 she rode her mare, Amber in the Nevada Day Parade. She married Vere Harris in 1926, and became the mother of two sons, Billie Lee Harris and Edward DeWayne Harris. In 1947, Vere Harris became a victim of an industrial accident in Overton, NV, a community to which the couple had recently relocated. Maxine married John Bressenden (Jack) Waymire in Las Vegas, Nevada in 1949, and the couple subsequently relocated to Reno, later moving into Fernley. Both of her sons had been in fatal accidents: Bill in 1969 and Ed in 1972. Maxine is survived by five grandchildren, numerous great grandchildren, several great-great grandchildren and nieces, nephews and cousins, as well as a life-time of great friends. A Funeral Service was held on Friday, June 1, 2012 at 1:00pm at the Calvary Chapel of Fernley, 875 Fremont Lane in Fernley. A graveside service will be held on Friday, June 8th at 8:30am at the Pioneer Hill Cemetery in Overton, Nevada. Interment will follow.
