Maurice Wittwer Hardy, age 79, died on November 1, 2013 in his home in Logandale, Nevada. He was an active member of the L.D.S. church and was currently a High Priest in the Logandale First Ward. Mike was born on June 8, 1934, to Dudley Leavitt Hardy and Vera Eva Wittwer Hardy in their home in Bunkerville, Nevada. Following the death of his father, he moved with his family to Logandale, Nevada. He attended Logandale School, then went on to Moapa Valley High School where he served in several student-body offices, played on the football team and excelled in basketball where he was named to the All-Zone Team. He always enjoyed working and earned his own spending money from the time he was in the fifth grade. He milked cows for most of the dairy farmers in the valley. He picked radishes and onions and also worked in the cantaloupe and tomato plant fields every spring. Upon graduation from high school, he attended college in Cedar City where he studied building construction and worked three different jobs for the college. He graduated from their 2-year program and then attended B.Y.U. and also Utah State University. He was hired by Leavitt and Pulsipher, a major brick contractor in Salt Lake City as a brick tender, until drafted into the United States Army. He served in El Paso Texas for two years as an army cook and was honorably discharged. After leaving the army he returned to work for Leavitt and Pulsipher, and they offered to teach him to lay brick. He always appreciated them for providing him with a livelihood that served him well his entire life. After a full day of work, he would continue with his own building projects and completed several rental homes. He married Ann Monson in the Salt Lake Temple on June 21, 1963. They moved from Salt Lake City to Logandale in 1972. As a self-employed brick mason, he spent many years in the valley laying brick and building numerous homes. He loved his work and shared his work ethic with his children. His sons worked side by side with him as they mixed and poured foundations, built and bricked homes, and laid block. He is survived by his wife, Ann Monson Hardy, two daughters and four sons: Kay and husband, Kent Barlow, of Logandale; Bryce and wife, Becky Hardy, of Logandale; Rex and wife, Kim Hardy, of Henderson; Jill and husband David Hansen of Alamo, NV; Clark Hardy of Overton; David Hardy of Henderson; and 23 grandchildren.
