Mary Lou Ramirez, age 96, died Friday, December 17, 2021 at her home in Mesquite, Nevada. She was born November 25, 1925 in Albuquerque, New Mexico to Valentin and Natividad Lopez Madrid. On July 4, 1943 she married John Murillo Velasquez in Los Angeles, California. He was killed in action in WWII on April 19, 1945, leaving Mary a widow with one daughter.
Mary grew up in Albuquerque. She raised her daughter in Los Angeles, California, but spent time in Mexico, Utah and Nevada. She was bilingual and was able to teach English to earn a living. Always a faithful Christian, she enjoyed studying the Bible and going to church. She loved to dress up and go out to dinner with family. She was independent but loved time with her grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her only daughter, Gloria Berry, son in law; John P. Berry and two great grandchildren. She is survived by her grandchildren: Sheila (Miguel) Mejia of Mesquite, NV; Lisa Rodriguez, Michelle Berry, Tracie Madrid all of Salt Lake City, UT; John Berry (Hope Archuleta) of Texas; 20 great grandchildren including Alex whom she raised and 41 great great grandchildren.
A Graveside service will be held December 29, 2021 at 1:00 p.m. in Salt Lake City at the Memorial Estates Mountain View Cemetery. We are burying her next to her daughter. Friends and family are invited to sign our online guest book at www.virginvalleymortuary.com
