Marjory Scheaffer
Marjory Moody Scheaffer, 65, of Mesquite, NV, returned to the loving arms of her heavenly father on February 3, 2009. After a short, courageous battle with cancer, she passed away peacefully at Mesa View Hospital in Mesquite. Born April 3, 1943, in Delta, UT, to Connie and Floyd Moody, the third of seven children, she grew up running everywhere she went and climbing every tree in sight.
She married the love of her life, Richard Charles Scheaffer, of New Orleans, LA, on November 16, 1963, in Las Vegas, NV, where they lived for 35 years. They were blessed with one son, Richard Charles Scheaffer II. Following the passing of her husband, she began a new life in Mesquite with her sister and best friend, Janice Whicker, where they lived together for the past 13 years. She worked at the Casa Blanca as a casino hostess where she touched the lives of countless visitors and made many close friends. She met the second love of her life, David Mackay, and together they spent five happy years together until his death in 2003.
Margie had a heart of gold and welcomed many nieces and nephews into her home for a few hours, a few days, or a few years. "Aunt Gi" will be missed dearly. Until her much-anticipated grandchildren were born, she had her great-niece Emmy to adore. There wasn't a friend or family member who wasn't touched by her kindness and generosity. Her immediate and extended family meant the world to her, and she was always ready to lend a listening ear or hand.
She is survived by: her son Richard (Melissa) and two granddaughters, Olivia and Isabella, Providence, UT; her mother, Connie Moody, Mesquite, NV; three brothers and two sisters: Turk (Joyce) Moody and LaMar (June) Moody, Salt Lake City, UT; Max (Pam) Moody, Price, UT; Janice Whicker, Mesquite, NV; and Cindy Pace (Jon Rider), Phoenix, AZ; and 12 nieces and nephews. Also remembered are her "adopted" grandchildren, Samuel and Ryan Tucker and their parents Michael and Melinda of San Diego, CA. She was preceded in death by her father, Floyd Moody; her brother, Jay Moody; and her nephew, Dean Whicker.
A special thank you to all the medical personnel at the Huntsman Cancer Center and Mesa View Hospital who cared for her, as well as the outpouring of love and concern from many family members and friends.
Funeral arrangements are under the care of Virgin Valley Mortuary. A viewing will be held on Saturday, February 7, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at Virgin Valley Mortuary (320 East Old Mill, Mesquite, NV), with funeral services at Mesquite United Methodist Church (420 North Pioneer Blvd) to follow at 1:00 p.m. A celebration of Margie's life will be held for friends and family at the Casa Blanca from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.
