Marjorie Petersen

July 13, 1922 — September 17, 2015

Marjorie Whipple Petersen, age 93, passed away peacefully, Thursday, September 17, 2015 at her home in Logandale, Nevada, surrounded by her daughters. She was born July 13, 1922 in St. George, Utah to James Reuben and Fay Chadburn Whipple. On June 16, 1947 she married Ray Kermit Petersen in the Logan Utah Temple. He preceded her in death on December 22, 1978.

Marjorie lived most of her life in Moapa Valley. Her early years were spent on the Angel Ranch near St. Thomas and later moved to Logandale with her family. She earned her bachelors's degree from UNR in Reno during WWII. A real life "Rosie the Riveter", she worked for a time in the Southern California shipyards as a welder in the war effort. Upon graduation, she taught school for over 32 years, first high school home economics and later as an elementary teacher. She enjoyed traveling, painting and sewing. She will be remembered for her grace, kindness and determination.

Survivors include four daughters: Cheryl (Roger) Lustberg of Los Angeles, CA; Sandra (Dennis) Barrett of Logandale, NV; Shauna (Jeff) Adams of Logandale, NV; Debra (Richard) Higbee of Alamo, NV; eight grandchildren; twelve great grandchildren and one sister, Shirley (Glen) Hardy of Logandale. She was preceded in death by two brothers, two sisters and one great granddaughter.

Funeral services will be held Friday, September 25, 2015 at 11 a.m. at the Logandale 1st Ward Chapel. Visitation will be Thursday, September 24, 2015 from 6 - 8 p.m. at the Moapa Valley Mortuary and again Friday morning from 9:30 - 10:30 a.m. prior to services at the chapel. Interment will follow in the Logandale Cemetery.
