Mae T. Barney, age 96, died peacefully at her home in St. George, Utah. She was born May 3, 1925 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Hyrum Winters and Percia Amelia Bunnell Terry. On December 17, 1948 she married Lendon Kay Barney in the Salt Lake Temple. He preceded her in death on January 17, 2017.
Mae grew up in Salt Lake City. While serving an LDS Mission in the East Central States, she met Kay while he was serving in the same mission. At the end of their missionary service, they dated while at college and soon started an eternal companionship. They raised their family in Bunkerville, Nevada, Carey, Idaho and finally in Las Vegas where they both worked as school teachers.
Mae loved serving the Lord through many different callings. Together, she and Kay served four missions and as a matron and counselor in the Las Vegas Temple as it was first opened. While she enjoyed her job as a kindergarten teacher, she loved working in the temple. She will be remembered for her compassion, loving and generous spirit.
