Lorene B Walker, 83, a 17-year resident of Mesquite, NV, passed away surrounded by family on December 26, 2011 following a stroke. Memorial services will be held at Mesquite, United Methodist Church on Friday, January 13, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. Interment will take place at Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery, January 13, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. She was born in Liberal, Kansas but died a conservative. The youngest child of three born to Lorena Smith and Ralph Boles, Lorene was raised on a farm near Liberal, later moving to Manhattan, KS. Upon graduating from Manhattan High School, Lorene married her high school sweetheart Charles Walker. Chuck joined the US Air Force following college graduation and for the next 30 years, Lorene followed her husband around the world eventually raising four children. Lorene lost her beloved husband December 25, 2003. Moving (once again) to Mesquite in 1994 from Rapid City, SD, they quickly became immersed in the community, loving the people, the weather and retirement. They loved Mesquite United Methodist Church and were active members in faith and service. Lorene immensely enjoyed PEO and had many wonderful friends. She was an active Republican, enjoyed Desert Dames and helped many years at the Mesquite Community Food Bank. Lorene is survived by daughter-in-law Martha Walker of Milford, PA., daughter Barbara (Bart) Bartlett of San Antonio, TX; son Mike Walker of Hays, KS; and son Steve (Lisa) Walker of Murray, UT. Lorene and Chuck lost their oldest child, Capt. Bruce Walker, MIA, Vietnam 1972. Lorene is survived by brother-in-law Roy (Ann) Walker of Plantation, FL., 10 grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She will be dearly missed. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Mesquite United Methodist Church.
