Lois Chadburn Perkins, 95, died on Friday February 12, 2021 peacefully in her hospital room in St. George Medical Center in St. George, UT. Lois was born in St. George, UT on May 1, 1925 to Benjamin Roe Chadburn and Martha Elizabeth Hunt, and was raised in Veyo, UT on her father’s farm. When WWII started, Lois moved to Nebraska to work at an ammunition plant where she and Kleon Winsor reunited and married before he went overseas. They had three daughters, Martha, Lorie and Mary. They were later divorced.
On May 3, 1952, she married Robert M. Perkins and joined their two small families. Robert had three children, Marston, Gerald and Roberta. Soon after, Benjamin and Sherri were born. Lois, Robert and their children were sealed in St. George Temple on January 25, 1977. Lois and Robert wished to serve a mission together, but due to Robert’s health, they were called to serve a mission in Bunkerville, NV area. Robert later passed away on October 1, 1986. Lois went on to serve another mission in Vancouver, Canada. She served countless hours in the Las Vegas and St. George Temples, and she was a wonderful historian and writer. In 1997, she sold the family home in Overton, NV and moved to St. George to be with her siblings and daughter. Later in life, she married her good friend and neighbor, Don Thornton, in 2004 and they had a wonderful marriage until his passing two years later.
Lois worked for many years for the Las Vegas Sun, writing Moapa Valley news. She served as the Chairman on Moapa Valley Town Board and Chamber of Commerce. She volunteered for the VFW and served as a States Park Commissioner for many years. In her later years, you could find her in her garden She enjoyed it and shared veggies with friends and neighbors.
She is survived by her children, Martha Winsor, Lorie (Richard) Pedersen, Mary (Maylon) McCreless, Roberta (Jimmy) Sinyard, Ben Perkins, and Sherrie (Leroy) Fox; her forty-one grandchildren; eighty-nine great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and a large extended family. She is preceded in death by her eternal companion, Robert M. Perkins; her sons, Marston L. Perkins and Gerald Fay Perkins; several grandchildren; and her parents and siblings.
Graveside services will be on Friday, February 19, 2021 at 12:00 p.m. PST at the Pioneer Hill Cemetery. The service will be live-streamed at Lois Chadburn Perkins Memorial Facebook Group. The family invites you to leave a message or memory in their Guest Book at www.moapavalleymortuary.com.
